2009-2010 Season
Mainstage Series
A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams October 1-3 at 7:30PM October 4 at 2:00PM
Tennessee Williams' 1947 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, A Streetcar Named Desire reveals to the very depths the character of BlancheDuBois, a woman whose life has been undermined by her romantic illusions, which lead her to reject - so far as possible the realities of life with which she is faced and which she consistently ignores. The pressure brought to bear upon her by her sister, with whom she goes to live in New Orleans, intensified by the earthly and extremely "normal" young husband of the latter leads to a revelation of her tragic self-delusion and in the end to madness.
Cloud Nine by Caryl Churchill November 19-21 at 7:30PM November 22 at 2:00PM
Cloud Nine by British playwright Caryl Churchill was first staged in New York in 1981 and was a popular and critical success. Cloud Nine is set in the nineteenth century in an African country ruled by Britain, and Churchill satirizes the repressive nature of the Victorian family, the rigidity of narrowly prescribed gender roles, and the phenomenon whereby oppressed peoples in colonized countries take on the identity of the colonizers. Act II shows what could happen when the restrictions of both the genre of comedy and Victorian ideology are loosened in the more permissive society.
A Piece of My Heart by Shirley Lauro February 4-6 at 7:30PM February 7 at 2:00PM

The drama is based on Keith Walker's book, A Piece of My Heart, the Stories of 26 American Women Who Served in Vietnam. The play combines stories and songs to tell the struggle of six women's lives during and after the war.
